Waterproof cover vs waterproof foam — the distinction that matters

Marketing often blurs these. A waterproof cover keeps liquid off the top layer, but if the dog soaks through it or the seams leak, the foam underneath still gets wet and stays wet. A waterproof foam or liner means the support core is sealed, so even if the cover is saturated you can strip it off, wash it, and the bed dries out clean. For an incontinent dog, insist on the liner.

Practical washing tips

Buy a size whose cover fits your machine, or you'll be hand-washing forever. A waterproof mattress protector or a washable pee pad on top adds a cheap extra layer you can swap daily between full washes.
