Our standards

Editorial policy

The standards we hold ourselves to for sourcing, accuracy, updates, and independence. The how-we-pick detail lives in our methodology; this is the rulebook behind it.

Independence

Our rankings are editorial and buyer-first. No brand pays for placement or coverage, no manufacturer sends us products in exchange for a review, and no commission rate influences where a product lands. When the cheaper product is the better buy, we rank it higher and say why — even though it earns us less. Our funding model is disclosed in full on our affiliate disclosure page.

Sourcing and accuracy

  • Product factscome from the manufacturer's listing, manual, or a published standard — never from memory. Where a number is someone else's measurement, we attribute it.
  • Health informationis cited to reputable veterinary sources (such as the AKC, VCA, and Cornell's canine-health resources) and linked on the page.
  • No fabrication.We do not invent prices, ratings, review counts, study results, or testing we didn't do. If a claim can't be sourced, it's omitted or clearly flagged as unverified.
  • No fake testing.We have no lab and we don't claim one; our scores are labeled as research-based judgments, not measurements.

Prices

All prices are pulled live from Amazon and date-stamped. If our data ages past 48 hours, the price is removed rather than shown stale — the button reverts to "Check price on Amazon." Amazon's price at checkout is always the one that counts.

Health and safety (YMYL)

Grey & Gentle recommends comfort and mobility gear; it does not provide veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Every health-adjacent page carries a visible note deferring medical questions to your vet, and we exclude purely diagnostic topics. Anything on this site is a supplement to proper veterinary care, never a replacement for it.

Updates and re-verification

We re-check our roundups on a regular cadence — prices, availability, and whether the top pick still deserves the spot. The "last verified" date on each page reflects a real check; we don't bump dates to fake freshness. When a product is discontinued or changes materially, we update the page and swap the pick.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes, and we'd rather fix it than defend it. If you spot a factual error, tell us— we aim to review and correct genuine errors within 48 hours, and we'll note significant corrections on the page.
